BIG IMPACTS

1 in 6 Nevadans — nearly half a million people — rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table.

Trump’s recently signed “Big Beautiful Bill” threatens to take that daily bread away from thousands of families in our state.

  • Over 265,000 Nevada families could lose all or part of their SNAP benefits.
  • 85,000 families may see monthly cuts of at least $25.
  • Refugees, parolees, and asylum seekers — about 10,500 Nevadans — will lose eligibility.
  • Nevada may be forced to cover $50–150 million more annually, creating new strain on state resources.

This isn’t just about numbers. This is about children going to school hungry, seniors choosing between food and medicine, and families already struggling being pushed deeper into crisis.

As Lutherans, we pray “Give us this day our daily bread.” That prayer calls us to act so all may share in God’s abundance.

LEAN will continue to advocate for food justice in Nevada and ensure our communities are not abandoned in the name of politics.
