Help us not to grow weary in doing good. When our efforts feel small compared to the needs that surrounds us, stir Your creative Spirit in us that we may press on in new and creative ways. When uncertainty causes us to lose our footing, strengthen our faith that may rise each day confident in the assurance that You walk with us. Grant us wisdom and a softened heart, that even in the smallest of interactions with those around us, Your love may be evident, and Your goodness be shared. Amen.
Working Together to End Hunger in the Grand Canyon Synod
The Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network brings together leaders from congregations, ministries, and community partners who are committed to alleviating hunger in our communities. Together, we share ideas, offer mutual support, and collaborate on projects that make a real difference.
As part of a nationwide network sponsored by ELCA World Hunger and led by local leaders, our synod’s Hunger Leaders Network connects the work we are already doing with resources, partnerships, and new opportunities to grow in impact.
Who is a Hunger Leader?
A Hunger Leader is anyone helping address hunger in their congregation or community. Every church in the Grand Canyon Synod is involved in feeding ministries—from in-house food pantries to community meal programs to partnerships with food banks and shelters.
If you are running, volunteering with, donating to, or supporting these ministries, you are already a Hunger Leader! No training or prerequisites required—just a passion to serve your neighbors.
Our vision is for every congregation and ministry in the synod to have a Hunger Leader connected to this network.

Our Work Together
40-40-40 Lenten Challenge
For the past two years, our synod has joined in this challenge to pray, act, and give during Lent.
In 2023, we faced off with the Southeastern Iowa Synod.
In 2024, we partnered with all of Region 2.
Together, we raised nearly $60,000 for ELCA World Hunger!
Synod Assembly Resolution (2023)
Our Hunger Leaders Network brought forward a resolution encouraging all congregations to strengthen anti-hunger work through ministry support, awareness-raising, and financial giving. The resolution passed unanimously.
Hunger Leaders Survey
We are building a database of all the feeding ministries, food pantries, and partnerships in our synod—helping us connect, learn from each other, and grow stronger together.
Join Us!
The Hunger Leaders Network is a place of encouragement, connection, and action. Whether you’re brand new to hunger ministry or have been serving for years, we’d love for you to be part of this growing network.
Together, we can make sure no one in our communities goes hungry.
Do you need art to add some creative design to your space? Come over to Our Center next Thursday for a chance to buy original artwork from local queer artists and take part in interactive art pieces.
These artists will receive the majority of the proceeds for their artwork with only a small amount benefitting Our Center. There is a $10 suggested donation upon entry but make sure to come ready for the silent auction! Cash or donations to Our Center are welcome.
How much is the artwork? Silent auctions bidding range from $25-250 (or more if the audience really wants an art piece with a friendly bidding competition) depending on each art medium, time spent by artists on the art piece, and the size of the art.
Aug. 30th 5pm at Our Center 1745 S Wells Ave Reno, NV 89502
This is all ages because art is for everyone! Share this event with your art enthusiast friends and let’s help support our local artists.

Why We Gather
We are Lutheran Christians—rostered and lay—gathering in a time of growing injustice against refugees, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, those experiencing poverty, and many pushed to the margins and harmed by unjust systems. We are compelled by our faith to proclaim good news and act with courage. Rooted in Amos’ call to justice, we gather not only to pray, but to build relational power and pursue sustained change.
This is more than a two-day event in our hearts and minds. It’s a faithful step into a sustained movement over multiple years—deepening relationships, naming what is broken, and discerning a shared call to action.
What Guides Us
We are:
WITH those who suffer violence, exclusion, or erasure and organizations that advocate and work on their behalf.
AGAINST systems and rhetoric that deny dignity.
COMMITTED to sustained empowerment, advocacy, and organizing beyond this moment.
CALLED to act from our Christian Lutheran commitments to justice, accountability, and mercy.
What Gathering at the Gate Is
This is a grassroots movement, and we pray only a starting point. We are working to create the capacity for leaders to show up, listen deeply, and speak clearly. We gather to root ourselves in faith, amplify marginalized voices, and build trust that can carry lasting work forward. We gather as Lutherans, friends, and neighbors with and for the whole church and world.
“Be merciful, just as your God is merciful.” – Luke 6:36
