ELCA Advocacy – Congregational Impacts

Last week, ELCA Advocacy delivered constituent letters and hand-drawn paper plates from children at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyvale to senators and representatives on Capitol Hill. The plates and letters lifted up the importance of SNAP funding and pending legislation in Congress—reminding our leaders that no one should go hungry.

How can your congregation advocate?
One simple way is to write letters or postcards to your elected officials about issues that align with our faith’s call to love our neighbors—such as hunger, housing, or healthcare. Children, youth, and adults alike can participate!

You could also:

Pray together for those experiencing food insecurity and for compassionate leadership.

Host an Advocacy Sunday with letter-writing after worship.

Invite a local advocacy leader to speak about faith and public policy.

Use ELCA Advocacy Action Alerts to send messages directly to Congress.
