LEAN STATEMENT ON SPECIAL SESSION:
Lutheran Engagement and Advocacy in Nevada (LEAN) calls on Governor Lombardo and Speaker Yeager to ensure that this Special Session addresses the urgent crisis facing Nevada families by restoring and protecting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
During this government shutdown, life for Nevadans does not stand still. Rents keep climbing, grocery prices soar, and health care premiums rise beyond reach. Families are being forced to make impossible choices between food, medicine, and shelter, while proposals are being considered to grant tax credits to Hollywood billionaires.
Our priorities as a state must reflect our values. Nevadans should come first.
As people of faith, we are called to live out the words of Jesus in Matthew 25: to feed the hungry, care for the vulnerable, and stand with the least among us. Every Nevadan deserves dignity, respect, and the assurance that their government will not abandon them in times of need.
