Scripture reminds us: “Give us this day our daily bread.” Yet on November 1st, Congress will let millions go hungry by allowing SNAP funding to run out.
Children cannot thrive when they are hungry. As people of faith, we must speak out. Tell Congress to restore SNAP funding now!
As we prepare for the Special Session, we are reminding you that we are stronger together. In our Holy Scriptures, liberation has always come when people refused to be silent and stood shoulder to shoulder for justice. Nevada is no different.
Our partner of Ministry, Lutheran Social Services of Nevada has temporarily paused operations due to the Federal Government Shutdown, and they are currently seeking other funding partners.
“As the end of the month approaches, families are understandably anxious. Advocates must reassure households that October SNAP benefits have been funded and are available. If the Trump administration chooses not to fund SNAP in November, benefits may be delayed but will be reimbursed once the shutdown ends,” reads this post from FRAC of which the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a supporter. It continues: “USDA must use every available mechanism, including utilizing its contingency reserves, to prevent hunger and uphold its responsibility to the American people.”
LEAN is standing with advocates across the country and Nevada to say that hunger is a policy choice.
USDA has the authority to sustain SNAP, just as it has in past shutdowns.
