This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
Want to make a lasting impact in your community? Get involved with LEAN and join us as we continue the work for justice, equity, and empowerment. Whether you’re passionate about voting rights, racial justice, or economic equality, your voice and actions matter.

The ELCA Churchwide Assembly has voted to adopt the edited social statement “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust.” In 2022, the Churchwide Assembly authorized two reconsiderations of the social statement. The 2025 assembly addressed Reconsideration #1: a review of specific text references that “would consider the import that marriage legally is now a covenant between individuals;” review specific wording “in light of public acceptance of marriage of same-gender and gender-non-conforming couples;” and “consider references to diversity of family configurations.”
