Support the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act: A Response to America’s Housing Crisis.
Earlier this summer, the Senate Banking Committee advanced the bipartisan ROAD to Housing Act (S. 2651) by an overwhelming 24-0 margin. Introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), this comprehensive bill addresses the housing crisis affecting millions of Americans through solutions that simplify rental assistance, support first-time homebuyers, enable zoning updates, expand housing supply, and streamline assistance for vulnerable neighbors experiencing homelessness.
Our advocacy comes as Washington, D.C. intensifies its sweep on homeless communities. The ELCA Homeless Justice Network (HJN) and local interfaith leaders, including Bishop Leila Ortiz of the ELCA Metro D.C. Synod, have raised prophetic voices of concern about recent developments while reaffirming our commitment to serve people in need. The ELCA social message on homelessness reads, “Where God’s love for people who are homeless is heard and lived, hope is engendered that breaks the downward spiral of life.”
As lack of available housing has become one of the largest drivers of homelessness, Congress must hear from faith-based advocates that comprehensive housing reform is a moral issue. The ROAD to Housing Act advances many priorities Lutheran advocates have supported for years: disaster assistance programs, preserving rural housing, creating pathways to homeownership, and much more.
Send a customized message to your lawmakers now, urging them to pass this bill as soon as possible after August Recess, which may present additional advocacy opportunities.
The Sierra Pacific Synod’s Emergency Response Fund was created to offer direct financial support to those impacted by government enforcement actions targeting marginalized and immigrant communities.

Working Together to End Hunger in the Grand Canyon Synod
The Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network brings together leaders from congregations, ministries, and community partners who are committed to alleviating hunger in our communities. Together, we share ideas, offer mutual support, and collaborate on projects that make a real difference.
As part of a nationwide network sponsored by ELCA World Hunger and led by local leaders, our synod’s Hunger Leaders Network connects the work we are already doing with resources, partnerships, and new opportunities to grow in impact.
Who is a Hunger Leader?
A Hunger Leader is anyone helping address hunger in their congregation or community. Every church in the Grand Canyon Synod is involved in feeding ministries—from in-house food pantries to community meal programs to partnerships with food banks and shelters.
If you are running, volunteering with, donating to, or supporting these ministries, you are already a Hunger Leader! No training or prerequisites required—just a passion to serve your neighbors.
Our vision is for every congregation and ministry in the synod to have a Hunger Leader connected to this network.

Synod Assembly Resolution (2023)
Our Hunger Leaders Network brought forward a resolution encouraging all congregations to strengthen anti-hunger work through ministry support, awareness-raising, and financial giving. The resolution passed unanimously.
