WHY IT MATTERS
Nevada’s secretary of state plays a central role in making democracy accessible, secure and accountable. The office oversees state elections: certifying candidates and ballot questions, maintaining voter-registration records, receiving campaign-finance reports and certifying election results.
The office also maintains official records for the executive and legislative branches, registers Nevada businesses and collects related licensing fees. Its work reaches well beyond elections, including licensing and training notaries, regulating securities, maintaining advance-directive and living-will registries, and keeping a registry of ministers and clergy.
The secretary of state serves up to two four-year terms and sits on key state boards, including the Board of Examiners and the Board of Prison Commissioners. Because the office helps safeguard elections, business accountability and essential public records, this race matters to every Nevadan.
