When you see “Board of Regents” on your ballot, you are choosing leaders who help govern Nevada’s public colleges and universities.
The Board of Regents oversees the Nevada System of Higher Education, which includes UNR, UNLV, Nevada State University, our community colleges, and other public institutions. Regents approve system budgets and set policies that affect tuition and fees, student services, campus priorities, and educational opportunities across the state. nshe.nevada.edu
Those decisions reach beyond campus. They can affect whether students can afford their education, whether colleges can prepare people for careers Nevada needs, and whether residents across the state can access higher education close to home. Regents do not make these decisions alone: the Legislature sets state funding, and campus leaders carry out system policies. But the Board has an important role in how the system is governed and how its resources are used.
Nevada’s Board is also changing. State law provides for a nine-member Board with four-year terms beginning January 2, 2029. leg.state.nv.us
